Some very exciting news to share!
Announcing the *June 19* official release of my new album: Aaron Lington – 4 Bari x Bach: Chorales for Baritone Saxophone
When the pandemic hit and my calendar suddenly became as wide open as a rural Montana highway, I started looking for *something* to do that would fulfill me artistically while also allowing me to learn something in the process. I had always wanted to get better at home recording and learning to properly use Logic and my microphone, etc. so I started by recording a single Bach chorale on Easter Sunday of 2020.
I always loved playing Bach chorales in saxophone quartet; was (and is!) a great way to practice intonation and phrasing. So, it seemed like a great way to improve my home recording skills. I recorded all four parts (SATB) on my primary saxophone, the baritone. I did all of the mixing myself.
After posting a few of these on FB and YT, I was encouraged by the comments and feedback I received and therefore continued to do many more – always choosing ones that meant something to me; either harmonically, melodically, or even sometimes liturgically.
I got better and better at the audio mixing part of the process and also the video editing (which saw me move from iMovie to FCP). So, I continued to do more and more.
In January 2021, I received a call from Jim Pugh at Little Village. He wanted to release an album comprised of 30-40 minutes of my favorite Bach chorales I had recorded! I was stunned and honored. And on June 19, the album will officially be out!
The album is comprised of 21 chorales and was mastered by Myles Boisen in Oakland. Liner notes by Livingston Taylor.
